Pest Controllers
The role of pest controllers will be increasingly important as the EHB Response program moves towards containment in 2011.
As with termites, EHB is a now a potentially serious home pest in Western Australia, and owners of homes built with untreated structural pinewood are becoming increasingly aware of the need for regular EHB pest inspections.
Additionally, it is likely that pest controllers in the future will receive increasing questions about EHB issues, such as treatment options.
EHB inspections and advice should only be carried out by EHB accredited pest controllers. A current list can be viewed on the Department of Commerce website.
EHB accredited training is available as part of normal pest control courses at various training centres. Additionally, a review of training is currently underway to improve the quality and availability of these training courses. The goal is to increase the numbers of pest controllers with EHB training and expertise.
In the meantime, pest controllers are encouraged to improve their knowledge of EHB, including descriptions and signs of infestation.
