Adult EHB grow to between 8mm and 25mm. |
Boring EHB larvae eat tunnels or galleries through timber. |
EHB larvae are a creamy white colour with dark brown to
black mouth-parts at the front.EHB larvae heads are
slightly broader than the body, which are shaped like a
tapered tube with definite segments. |
EHB in Western Australia has been detected in dead pine trees, dead branches of living pine trees and in untreated pine timber. |
EHB emergence holes are oval shaped and approximately 5mm to 10mm in size. They run with the grain on the surface of infested timber. |
Characteristic oval shaped emergence holes, running with the grain of the wood, are created when the adult beetle exits the timber. The tunnels or galleries bored by the larvae are also evident. |
Frass, a mixture of wood dust and droppings from the borer, can sometimes be found near infested timber. |
